So i made it to brisbane nice n safely as per usual. staying at a really awesome hostel in the heart of 'the valley' which is supposed to be the night club area not that im interested. i find thats what most australias talk about or even other travellers - where the best place to party is. thats prolly one of the last things on my list of things to do - party. i dont find that very cultural at all. i agree with most people who've been here who say that australia is just like canada just on the other side of the world because this is what alot of what canada is like - partying, going out, getting drunk and thats not why i came here but its the first thing people say when i ask them about the city im about to embark on 'ohh its a nice place, only about 2 pubs in the whole main area of town so there isnt much to do...' does that mean that a place is boring without clubs or pubs? i think thats all what backpacking seems to be about these days. and when i did it through europe almost 3 years ago i'll admit that thats alot of what i did, almost every night going out and drinking but im 3 years older now and just grown out of that stage. some people havnt i guess.
anyways enough about my rant - julia and i have decided to head up to bundaburg(???) to do some banana packing - supposed to be a higher paying job with lots of hours. sounds good to me. sounds also like alot of intensive labour (and people say that red-back spiders come around often! eeekkk!) but im comfortable with that - even if we work for a couple of weeks (im hoping we push through for a whole month!) we'll at least make a few pennies and that will definatly help me out.
but tomorrow at noon julia and i are off to hervey bay for one night and then our 2 nights 4wd self drive camping safari of fraser island. ive only read great things about this island so im really looking forward to it. i have to do some laundry but i think i'll wait until after the camping to get it done.
learned today that my chances of getting into uni for the fall are extremely low so im having mom put in an application to gmac for the fall. im extremely dissapointed but what can you do? soon enough i'll be able to go to uni. (they call it uni over here and in europe, not university)
much love for all of you
alia

I"m glad you're finally excited about all the things you're planning to do....they all sound great although you're much braver than I am cuz red-back spiders would scare the crap out of me I think!!
why would you say your chances are low of getting into the u??
Good Morning AliaBee;
The banana packing sounds interesting and cultural too. When you have grandchildren you can tell them that when you were 22, you spent some time packing bananas in Australia. Lots of people will never be able to say that.
I love you - have a good day.
Mum
aww... aliabee. that is so cute. the only nickname i got was weiner. and most of the time i had to explain myself. lol. but aliabee is definately cute!!
actually adam and i like the name alia so much, we have it in our names list!! we have a few now, but were not ready to tell them yet. lol. and we've decided were not going to find out the sex of this baby either. i think life has few natural surprises left.
packing banana's does sound like lots of work, but just think, you'll have killer arms, to go with a killer tan. lol. but like kelley said... red-back spiders. yuck. although i have to be strong and not be scared of bugs anymore, and it's not so much that im scared of them, they are just... creepy crawlees. if im showing fear of them, brooke will pick that up, and then she'll fear them, so... i've got to be strong, and say... "that's wonderful honey... a bucket of creepy crawlees!!" (lol).
one last thing... i want to be on your safari tour. sounds lovely.
have a great time!! take care, brush your hair.
christine XO.
Hi Alia,
Just to let you know that your kitty hasn't changed much. I was working from home yesterday because we were having the fire alarm tested, and Ninja spent most of the day curled around or on top of my laptop. It's hard to use the mouse if there's a cat lying on top of it. She's such fun!.
The banana picking sounds like something that will build a great memory. Go for it.
Love you!!
Dad
banana packing sounds exciting and little bit dirty. i'm excited about you going to macewan because then we will be schoolmates!!!
Yay, my Alia's growing up. I wholeheartedly agree with your rant. That's the biggest part of why I don't drink; surprisingly it's not because of the "Asian Flush". I grew out of that phase before I even reached it. We are kindred spirits.
I'll e-mail you with a loose itinerary after I book my flights. I know for sure I'm leaving on April 28 and going home May 23. That's the plan right now as long as I don't get bumped going standby. THAT WOULD SUCK! And we're hopefully flying in and out of Brisbane. Going south first, all the way to Melbourne, flying up to Cairns, and then back south to Brisbane. I think we'll be renting a car just cause then we have the freedom to do whatever and we can sleep in it some nights if hostel money is running low. We are planning on going to Fraser Island too, so I look forward to your review. You don't remember learning about that in Destinations? Largest sand island in the world dude!
And when it comes to Banana packing just know this. The first time I laid eyes on you, the first thought that came to my head was, "that girl looks like she could pack a mean banana."
PS - Screw uni, screw Grant Mac. Come work for WestJet and just work with me as something to do between trips. At least until we're grown up. We get deals with Zoom. Cheryl has her 2nd interview on the 20th.
but on the plus side....we can have lunch dates at Gmac! =)
